William "Bill" F. Salter - Passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Friday, October 4, 2013 at age 91.

Bill was a U.S. Army veteran and served in World War II. Since moving to Joliet in 1962, he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he will be fondly remembered as the usher who greeted everyone with a smile.

Bill retired from Caterpillar after over 42 years working in facilities in Peoria, Illinois, Glasgow, Scotland and Joliet.

He enjoyed volunteering and was a recipient of Rotary Club's Community Service Award. Bill was an avid golfer, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ruth Salter; three daughters, Cynthia (Jay) Caswell of Shorewood, Brenda (Jerry) Waldron of Westport, Connecticut and Virginia Salter-Geissler of Leipzig, Germany; a son, Ian Scott Salter (Larkin Oates) of Nashville, TN; ten grandchildren, Tracy Caswell (Robert Bodach), Ross Caswell, Joy (Andy) Fraser, Jaclyn Sharp, Gregor Geissler, Justin (Patty) Fye, Joshua, Jordan, Jacob and Anna Salter; two great-grandsons, Max and Caswell Fraser; a sister, Florence Campbell of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Monday, October 7, 2013 at Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Lying-in-state at Grace United Methodist Church, 1718 Avalon Avenue, on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until services.
