OBITUARY FROM THE TIMES:

Chandra Solivais Crown Point, IN Chandra Solivais, age 36, of Crown Point, formerly of Hobart, died peacefully at home February 9, 2007, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Chandra faced the disease like she did every obstacle in life; head-on with stubborn determination to beat the odds. Chandra lived most of her life in Hobart, IN. She loved her hometown and missed the familiar faces there after moving to Crown Point when she became ill. Chandra also missed her friends and co-workers at Meade Electric and BP Amoco when her illness forced her to stop working. Her rise there from a clerical to supervisory position was a source of great pride that made her feel valued for her intelligence and hard work.

Chandra is survived by two teenage sons: William and Michael Ellis. Her deepest sorrow was that she would not live long enough to know them as grown men leading the happy successful lives she wished for them. She is also survived by her fiancee and best friend Jeff Spies; her mother Deborah (Michael) Pace; father Bill (Dianne) Solivais; brother Jason (Jen) Solivais; sister Courtney Solivais (Mike Rodriguez); grandmother Beverly Gulledge; grandfather Bill (Irene) Solivais; four nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Chandra delighted in knowing that people rarely forgot her name, a Sanskrit word chosen by her mother for its meaning: "She outshines the stars." Chandra will be remembered for her strong, unwavering spirit and will be thought of with love any time an especially bright star catches the eye of someone who knew her.

Funeral services Tuesday, February 13, 2007, 7:00 p.m. at the Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th Street (corner Rt. 51 and 7th St.) Hobart, with Rev. Carol Biggs officiating. Services will terminate at the funeral home with cremation to follow at the Burns Funeral Home Crematory. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Hospice of the Calumet Area or St. Jude Children's Hospital so others with life threatening illness may be helped.
