OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, AUGUST 10, 2013:

Carol Ann Broda, age 71 of Kewanna, formerly of Hobart and Merrillville, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013. She lived on Bruce Lake where she made so many wonderful friends and memories. Carol was such an unselfish, kind, caring, giving, loving and sweet person. She always put others first. She touched everyone she came across and will be truly missed. Carol was a graduate of Hobart High School, Class of 1959. She retired from the Merrillville School Corporation as a preschool teacher.

Carol is survived by her loving daughters: Michelle (Michael) Kane of Glen Ellyn, IL and Carri (George) Sinnis of Carmel, IN; six grandchildren: Alexandra Kane, Krystal Sperry (Broda), Loukas, Landon, Logan and Lawson Sinnis; sisters: Lois Cortese and Pam (Dan) Cooper; sister-in-law, Gloria Immel; and brothers-in-law: Charles (Mary) Broda, all of Hobart and Don Johnson of Tennessee; 15 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert; son Phillip; parents: Roy and Ruby Bemis; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Charles and Mary Broda; sister, Connie Johnson; and brothers–in-law: Sam Immel and Tony Cortese.

Friends may visit with Carol’s family on Sunday, August 11, 2013 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. Interment at Graceland Cemetery.
