Anthony (Tony) Grasa - Class Of 1959

OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, OCTOBER 9, 2006:

ANTHONY GRASA "TONY" Lenoir City, Tennessee and formerly Hobart, Indiana Anthony "Tony" Grasa, age 65 years, of Lenoir City, Tennessee, passed away early Friday morning on October 6, 2006 at his home. Tony was a 1959 Graduate of Hobart High School. He served in the U. S. Army at Menwith Hill Station in England. He was a member of the U. S. Army Security Agency (which is under the National Security Agency). He spent his time in the ASA intercepting and decoding electronic intelligence. An avid golfer, he also played golf for the U. S. Army throughout Europe. After his discharge from the U. S. Army, he attended Ursini College in Philadelphia, earning his Degree in Business Management. Tony worked as Manager of Transportation for McClouth Steel in Detroit. Tony was then recruited by B. Ray Thompson (Thompson-Boling Arena, Thompson Cancer Center) to come to Knoxville to be his Director of Sales for the Southeastern United Stares at Elk River Resources. Elk River was later sold to Sun Oil, which became Sun Coke Company. (The product coke is derived from coal and used in the production of steel in the United States). Due to poor health caused by Intersticial Pulmonary Fibrosis, Tony reluctantly retired from Sun Coke Company in 1955. An amateur photographer, he was a member of the Avalon Golf Club and East Tennessee Sportsman's Club. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Carrie Murray Grasa, and his first wife, Dori.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Kennedy; daughters, Leslie Grasa of Portland, OR, Shirley Tramm of Athens, OH and Valorie Fister of Knoxville, TN; son-in-law, Joseph Fister of Knoxville, TN; granddaughters, Victoria and Jacklyn Claburn of Knoxville, TN; and cousin, Mike Grasa of Middletown, OH. He will also be missed by his "grandpuppies" Sophie, Ludwig, Dobby and Mocha.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 8, 2006 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee. A Celebration of Life Service, led by Father Bede, will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday in the Highland Memorial Chapel.
