Everitt Evan Baker - Class Of 1935

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, APRIL 22, 2010:

Everitt Evan Baker, 93, a former long-time resident of Dallas, TX, passed away April 6, 2010 in Edmond, OK. He was born in Crown Point, IN on December 14, 1916 to William and Sadie Baker. He graduated from Hobart High School in Hobart, IN, where he became a gifted musician, earning many state and national medals for trombone competitions. He performed in the band at the first All-Star Football Game at Soldier Field in Chicago. He earned a band Fellowship to Baylor University, where he met the love of his life, Miriam Reed. Everitt was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and became a First Lt. after graduating from O.C.S. He and Miriam were married January 1, 1943, prior to his deployment to Europe. He was injured in the Battle of the Bulge and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1945. After his recovery, Everitt and "Mim" moved to Dallas in 1946. He worked for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Southern Union Gas Company, prior to establishing his own CPA firm in 1966. He was a member of Oak Cliff Christian Church, Oak Cliff Masonic Lodge, Hello Shrine Temple, Texas Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. Music remained a focal point of his life, and he played trombone in the Hello Shrine Band, Survivors Dixie Land Band, and Blasmusik Texas, and The Texas All-State German Band. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great- grandfather, who will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam; his parents; and his sisters: Wilma Johnson and Lois Wilson of Hobart, IN. He is survived by daughters: Angela (Ray) Pavlic of Houston, TX and Sharron (Steve) Suarez of Edmond, OK; grandchildren: Deborah (Craig) Crabb of OKC, OK; Michael (Vera) Suarez of Grapevine, TX, Ashley Pavlic of Houston, TX; and a great granddaughter, Eleanor.

A memorial service will be held at Restland Cemetery in Dallas at a later date under the direction of Crawford Family Funeral Service in Edmond, OK. Memorials can be made to Shriners Burn Hospital for Children, 815 Market St., Galveston, TX 75550.
