Alma Jackson (Johnson) - Class Of 1942

OBITUARY IN NW INDIANA TIMES, AUGUST 28, 2012:

Alma J. Johnson of Hobart, passed from this life on August 26, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was 89. Alma was born on June 11, 1923 in Yorkville, OH. She was the oldest of seven children. She graduated Hobart High School, 1942 then Gary Business College. She worked at JC Penny in the cash office, where she met her husband, Lloyd. They were married on March 12, 1947. Alma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Caring for her family was her primary focus. She loved cooking, baking and entertaining. She was a volunteer for the St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary in the mail room for a number of years. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church for over 50 years, a member of the Naomi Circle and Altar Guild, and she sang in the Chancel Choir.

Alma is survived by her children: Joan (Rich) Locke of Carmel, IN, David (Lynda) Johnson of Valparaiso and Ken (Lisa) Johnson of Reno, NV; grandchildren: Jenifer (Chad) Mitchell, Kristin (Chad) Bailey and Justin (Kristen) Locke; four great grandchildren: Chase, Emma and Ryan Mitchell, and Camden Bailey; three brothers: Bill Jackson of Merrillville, John Jackson of Hobart and Roger Jackson of Lake Station; and sister, Cheryl Campbell of Hobart. Alma was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lloyd; her parents; brother, Bud; and sister, Phyllis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hymnal Fund at Augustana Lutheran Church. A funeral service will be Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 207 Kelly St., Hobart with Rev. Charles Strietelmeier officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 29, 2012 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. with a three p.m. St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary service at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W.
