Ruth E. Overton, age 94, of Valparaiso, formerly of Hobart, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015. She was born on December 4, 1921 in Hobart, Indiana to Leo and Augusta Fifield. She worked as a cook for the Viking Chili Bowl. Ruth’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. 

Ruth is survived by her sons: Lloyd Overton, Wayne (Debra) Overton, Bill (Barbara) Overton; daughter in law: Susan Overton; grandchildren: Melissa (Samuel) Yuratovac, Laura (fiance: Charlie Steinborn) Overton, William (fiance: Krysten Gunter) Overton, Jeremy Overton, Mitchell (Maggie) Overton, Nicholas Overton: great grandchildren: Sammy, Alexandrea, Eythan, Audrey and Hunter; sisters: Betty Schoonover, Blanche Perry; brother in law: Mike Maicke.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband: Lloyd Overton; sons: Clifford Overton, Rex Overton; daughter in law: Christine Overton; sister: Clara Maicke; brothers in law: Roland Schoonover, George Perry. 

A funeral service for Ruth will take place Friday, December 11, 2015 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Pastor Rich Schmidt officiating. She will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
